STUDIOS

For over 30 years, The Mirkwood Group bought up old studios and broadcast facilities, keeping the best equipment, recording gear and instruments and disposing of the rest. The resulting collection of recording consoles, recorders and microphones are what give us our unique ability to create a genuine vintage sound.

Acoustique Alkemie has been often asked to set up temporary studios in locations around the world.  The studios, which typically operate from two weeks to six months, are more cost-effective than renting studio time and allow the artists and producers to record and collaborate whenever they feel like it. Catering to both independent and budget minded artists and producers who understand the sonic qualities of different spaces, be they nightclubs, Houses of Worship or an old Opera House; and strive to incorporate that sound into their recordings. We have fully restored analog tape machines, consoles, outboard equipment and microphones. Because many of the freelance engineers we draw upon are also skilled electrical engineers, our "vintage" equipment doesn't mean "old and broken" equipment.

Recorders

Yes! Acoustique Alkemie has reel-to-reel capabilities.  If that perfect sound you're seeking harkens back to the days of magnetic tape, we can do it. Live to half-track or final post processing 'sweetening'. We also have an array of machines useul for 'tape' to 'digital' transfer for archive purposes.

MIXERS

Funny thing about mixing consoles; time was every studio or remote session relied on a console as the focal point of all the incoming and out-going audio. Now, most recording is done with outboard codec interfaces and "on-the-box". And that works; the entire process is in the digital realm. If you were to ask anyone in the industry from "the old days", most often you'll hear that the biggest thing digital has going for itself is instant and precise recall.

However, as more and more artists are looking for a retro sound, there’s nothing else that sounds as warm, emotional and retro as music hitting capacitors, resistors, descrete transistors and maybe the occasional tube. Nothing. We've recently finished restoration of a mint condition 48 channel Soundcraft GB8, manufactured in Great Britian.
